And David said, is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake? And the King said, is there not any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the King, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any.
Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda(the place of decision), having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt; withered, waiting for the move of water. And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
I begin to know the Lord Jesus at a very young age, like I was recruited by early to join the University of Illinois at Chicago Early Outreach program. Sometimes, I would come to church and see people that were old and cranky, and disoriented about their lives. Sometimes, the Bishop would stand up and exhort us about pray for the sick and shut-in. At home, I asked one of my mother’s friends from grammar school, what does shut-in means, she refuse to answer with some reserve. I got some concern for my big track ahead at Abraham School of Medicine. And then, sometimes, the Bishop would announce people were in the hospital with cancer, some life threatening, or some incurable disease with a short time to live. Something about that bothered me in my prayer life and fellowship with people at church.
As I aforementioned, the man sat a the pool of Bethesda for thirty and years, and Jesus, who is the chief physician ask will you be made whole? Neighbors, family, and friends we sometimes come to church mentally ill and don’t go to the doctor, but the pastor knows and don’t have the tools in the Lord’s body. Sometimes, we come to church with a vain pronouncement over our body from a medical, but we don’t tell the pastor, because call on the elders of the church when we are sick. Sometimes, the pastor may be overloaded with one.
